★Is 5-Aminolevulinic Acid Hydrochloride water-soluble or oil-soluble?
5-ALA HCl is excellent water-soluble, slightly soluble in methanol and ethanol, almost insoluble in oil phase. It is very convenient to use in aqueous solutions and water-based formulations.
★Is 5-Aminolevulinic Acid Hydrochloride water-soluble or oil-soluble? How to incorporate it?
5-ALA HCl is water-soluble. It dissolves readily in water, glycols (propylene glycol, butylene glycol), and glycerin. It has very low solubility in oils. Incorporation method:
For water-based formulas: Dissolve 5-ALA in the water phase at room temperature or with gentle warming (below 40°C).
For anhydrous gels: Pre-dissolve in a small amount of glycol, then mix with other glycols or gelling agents.
Avoid direct addition to hot water (>50°C) to prevent degradation.
We recommend adding 5-ALA during the cool-down phase (below 40°C) after other water-phase ingredients have been processed.
★What is the recommended dosage of 5-Aminolevulinic Acid Hydrochloride in cosmetic formulations?
5-ALA is active at very low concentrations:
Anti-aging / collagen stimulation (with red light): 0.1-0.5%
Anti-acne / sebum control (with blue light): 0.5-2%
Skin brightening / melanin reduction: 0.1-0.5%
Daily maintenance (non-photodynamic): 0.05-0.2%
Do not exceed 2% in leave-on products to minimize phototoxicity risk. For first trials, start at 0.1-0.2%. Higher concentrations require strict light protection instructions.
★What is the role of 5-ALA HCl in cosmetics?
It accelerates skin keratin metabolism, mildly improves aging keratin, brightens dull skin, refines texture, and assists photodynamic skincare effects with mild and non-irritating properties.
★What pH and temperature are suitable for 5-ALA HCl?
Stable in pH 3.0–6.0 (weakly acidic). Avoid high temperature above 60℃ during production and use to prevent activity loss.
★What ingredients can 5-ALA HCl be compounded with?
Agriculture: Amino acids, humic acid, macro/micro elements, seaweed extract
Cosmetics: Hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, VC derivatives, centella asiatica, panthenol
★Can you provide COA, MSDS, TDS documents?
We provide complete COA, MSDS, TDS, heavy metal and microbial reports for global customs clearance and registration.
★What is the difference between 5-ALA HCl and 5-ALA free base?
5-ALA HCl has better stability, higher water solubility and easier storage; 5-ALA free base is unstable and difficult to store. HCl salt is more suitable for industrial and commercial applications.
