Monobenzone is a decolorizing agent. Its function is to increase the elimination of melanin (pigment molecule) in skin cells.
Monobenzone (for skin) is used to permanently lighten the skin of patients with leukoplakia. Depigmenting the darker skin around the leukoplakia area will help even out the complexion and skin appearance.
Monobenzone is not suitable for the treatment of freckles, milk coffee spots, sunburn, melanoma, jaundice or other pigmentation disorders caused by non-leukoplakia.
Monobenzone can also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Monobenzone is usually used 2 or 3 times a day. Apply a thin layer on the pigmented skin area and wipe gently.
It may take up to 4 months to complete the treatment of skin depigmentation. Continue to use the medicine as directed. If your condition does not improve after 1 month of treatment, please tell your doctor.
After the first 4 months of treatment, you may need to use Monobenzone only twice a week to maintain the desired effect.
The use of monophenone may cause changes in the color of untreated skin. If you are concerned that other skin areas not affected by vitiligo may discolor,please consult your doctor.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Avoid exposure to the sun or tanning beds. Monobenzone can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when outdoors.
For the rest of your life, skin treated with Monobenzone may be particularly sensitive to sunlight or irritation. You should always apply sunscreen.
If you have any of the following signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical help: Hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
If you have serious side effects, stop using benzophenone and call your doctor immediately, such as:
Severe skin irritation;
Intense itching;
Severe burning;
Redness or swelling of the treated skin.
