Ceramides are a class of amide compounds formed by dehydration of long-chain fatty acids and amino groups of sphingosine. They mainly include ceramide phosphatidylcholine and ceramide phosphatidylethanolamine. Phospholipids are the main components of cell membranes, and 40% to 50% of sebum in the stratum corneum is composed of ceramides.
