Deoxyarbutin

Deoxyarbutin, as a new generation of skin brightening and whitening active agent, is mainly used in advanced whitening cosmetics.

Deoxyarbutin, as a competitive tyrosinase inhibitor, can regulate the generation of melanin, overcome pigmentation, fade black spots on the skin, and has a rapid and long-lasting skin whitening effect. Deoxyarbutin has a significantly better inhibitory effect on tyrosinase than other whitening agents, and a small amount can present a whitening and brightening effect. Deoxyarbutin also has strong antioxidant effects.

The whitening effect is 10 times that of hydroquinone, 350 times that of β- Arbutin, 150 times that of kojic acid, and 38.5 times that of the current popular α- Arbutin

★What is the appearance and purity of your Deoxyarbutin?

It appears as white to off-white crystalline powder with purity ≥ 99% (HPLC), low heavy metals, low impurity, and stable batch consistency.

★Is Deoxyarbutin water-soluble or oil-soluble?

Deoxyarbutin is slightly water-soluble and well oil-soluble. It can be dissolved in propylene glycol, butylene glycol, ethanol or oil phase for better formulation compatibility.

★How powerful is Deoxyarbutin in whitening compared with arbutin?

Deoxyarbutin is 3–10 times more effective than α-arbutin and β-arbutin in inhibiting tyrosinase, making it a high-efficiency brightening ingredient for premium formulas.

★What products is Deoxyarbutin suitable for?

Whitening serums, spot-correcting creams, brightening essences, toner, masks, body whitening lotions and professional salon brightening products.

★What is the recommended usage rate in formulations?

Recommended concentration: 0.1%–1.0%

Daily mild brightening: 0.1%–0.3%

High-efficiency spot fading: 0.3%–1.0%

★What pH range is suitable for Deoxyarbutin?

It remains stable and effective in pH 4.5–7.0 (weakly acidic to neutral). Strong alkaline conditions may affect its stability.

★What ingredients can Deoxyarbutin be compounded with?

It can be combined with niacinamide, tranexamic acid, VC derivatives, glabridin, hyaluronic acid and centella asiatica to achieve multi-path brightening.

★Is Deoxyarbutin stable in cosmetic formulations? How to prevent degradation?

Deoxyarbutin is less stable than arbutin, especially in water-based formulas. It can degrade into hydroquinone when exposed to heat, light, oxygen, or high pH. To maximize stability:

Keep pH 4.0–5.5 (optimal 4.5–5.0).

Use antioxidants (sodium metabisulfite, BHT, vitamin E) and chelators (EDTA).

Store finished products in opaque, airless packaging at cool temperatures.

Avoid prolonged heating above 50°C during manufacturing.

Consider using anhydrous or oil-based formulas (more stable).

We provide stability data and can help formulate stable Deoxyarbutin products.

★Is Deoxyarbutin approved for cosmetic use in the EU, USA, and China?

EU: Not approved. Deoxyarbutin is considered a “prohibited substance” because it may release hydroquinone. It is not listed in CosIng, and its use is effectively banned.

USA: Not specifically banned by FDA, but any hydroquinone release would violate regulations. It is rarely used in mainstream US cosmetics.

China (NMPA): Not listed in IECIC 2021. It cannot be used as an ingredient in cosmetic products sold in China.

Important: Deoxyarbutin is not legally permitted in the EU or China. For USA, extreme caution is advised. We strongly recommend using alpha-arbutin or niacinamide as safer alternatives for most markets. We supply Deoxyarbutin only for research and development or for markets where it is explicitly allowed (e.g., some non-EU countries with no restrictions). Please confirm local regulations before purchasing.
